Coffee Article In NY Times
Got caught up reading the millions of pages on the web about coffee and came across this really good article about coffee in NY, which believe it or not is just coming around. You guys should check it out and see that there are actually crazier coffee people out there than me. They're sick. Click here. And watch this video too.

Check Us Out.
I recently came across an article in Barista Mag about a website operated by this guy out of Portland. He started this site to pinpoint quality coffeehouses throughout the US for coffee junkies traveling. The illustration in the magazine showed a red dot in NM so I thought I better get on the site to see where this coffee mecca was. Turns out the shop was located in Artesia, NM: The Jahva House. Way Sweet! Check it out for yourself and click on the ONLY red dot in NM. www.espressomap.com

Update At Last!
I'm back with another update. Sorry for the inconsistency on these updates, but the only time I have to do this is on my free time, and I usually spend my free time shopping for supplies at Wal-Mart, eating out, or passing out....on the couch (If I only stop moving for 5 minutes). I’ll be making an effort to make even just a quick paragraph of an update on anything from new items, which we do have some of and you should come try them out, to special events. No guarantees though. Just said I’d try.

For this update I figured I’d give you all a review of our first major milestone: Our 1 Year Anniversary! For this year in review there have been many joyous, difficult, and wild moments here at The Jahva House. We first opened the doors on Nov. 21, 2005. Our first few months we were slammed. We did great and met many new and interesting people. Gotta admit, though. Some of you guys are nuts. We have one regular who comes in and get’s sometimes four drinks a day, everyday, and they’re all triple shots. We might be giving him his own parking space.

We had our Grand Opening in January with duo Tim and Miranda out of California. It was great. The place was packed and everyone was supporting us. Since then we’ve had several other performers in the shop. Some good and some just a little crazy (we’ll miss ya Oscar). We’ve also had some pretty wild moments here, including the hit and, literally, run outside our shop when the driver jumped out the truck running from the scene. After I ran down the driver and called the police to where his house was and my dad followed the remaining passengers to their house, everyone in the shop had to do a lineup in front of the shop to identify the driver. Never a dull moment here at The Jahva House.

We finished up our first year with a free One Year Anniversary Concert with Flicker Records own “Monk and Neagle.” It was a great show and one of the best nights I’ve ever had at the shop. Thanks to everyone who was there.

Guess it’s time to wrap this one up. It’s been a roller coaster of a year, but one thing has been consistent and that’s been our customers. You guys are awesome! Always have our backs, always full of compliments, and always telling Audrey and I to take a break. We love you all and hope we never disappoint you.

Be Blessed,
Rob, Audrey, Bill and Jeanette

Long time no.......type
So it was brought to my attention recently, by several friends, that I haven't updated the news page in a long while. I'm shocked! I thought I was the only one reading it. Thanks guys for your interest.

So we had another break in. They caused more damage than the first and this time stole some tools. And since I got tired of forking out money for very expensive windows, I crashed out on the couch at the shop for almost a month untill we had a security system installed. I saved all the rocks that they sent through the windows and had them ready if they tried it again. I wanted to make sure they got their rocks back.......uspside their head! Just kidding.

Well, if you've seen me driving around town with the "Opening Soon.... Really" sticker on the back of my truck, then you know that I really am getting closer. I've been placing all the orders for the food items this last week and they should be arriving in about 11 days. I have a training scheduled on Nov. 5 for making sandwiches by Boar's Head meats. All this time I've been making my sandwiches wrong?! No wonder I'm not a sandwich fan.

We're also having reps for the other companies coming in to show us how to bake all the pastries and prepare all the desserts. Once all the training is over we will open as quick as possible.

Thanks guys for all your interest and prayers. They were, are, and will always be needed. I can't wait to see all you guys at the shop when it's finally done. Come see me. Take care. Be blessed. Bye.

Welcome to the neighborhood!
Today was one of those days that just started out with a bang.......or I guess a crash. The kind of crash that happens when a 5 pound rock is thrown through your front glass door. Yes, some of the adorable neighborhood "kids" sailed a rock through the front door last night. Or I guess you could say the other night. It's about 1am now and I'm still worried that the little punks (God bless them ) are persistent. Hopefully they weren't listening when their teacher told them to never give up on their dreams. I guess I'll see in the morning. I just might be back with an update tomorrow. To be optimistic, though, nothing else was damaged and the Mirage was still pumping some mean espresso.

Besides that, we're really close to opening. I'm serious!! Except for some trim on the steps of the stage, the installation of the glass bar top, and finishing up the soda dispenser (and of course our glass front door), we're finished and ready to start brewin' coffee and bakin' muffins. We already have the order in for our pasteries, desserts (if they taste as good as they look you won't be recognizing me soon), and our meats and cheeses. Once we can get all of this figured out we can open. It's not going to be easy but it'll happen. And we're going to make it the best it can possibly be.

Espresso is flowin'
Man, a lot has happened since my last post. Most important of which is that I got the Mirage hooked up. It looks awesome on the bar. Right away I started pulling shots with our beans from Doma and got some of the thickest, sweetest tasting crema I've ever seen in NM. I also took some time to practice some latte art. When I went to Seattle for training, my very first attempt I pulled off a reasonable rosetta for a beginner.....first try! So I get all cocky, hook up the Mirage, steam some milk, start the pour like the professional latte artist I am, and pour a beautiful.....train wreck! Well, I've been practicing and my progress is in the "Our Pics" gallery. Yeah, I know it's not great, but it's gettin' better.

In the meantime, if you're reading this, come into the shop any day and tell me you read on my website that I need some practice and I'll make you a drink on the house. That way I can practice my latte art without having to make myself 6 lattes a day. PLEASE, help me get some sleep!

Be Blessed,
Rob

First Post
Hey y'all. Thanks for checking out the site. This will be my first of hopefully many inserts on the home page. I'll be informing you of different events going on around town and in the coffeehouse, specials on our menu, and other absolutely useless bits of info. Come by every now and then to see what's up. Sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of the page so that we can fill your mailbox with spam (just kidding.....please sign up). Underneath the left menu there's a link to send me prayer requests, suggestions, or comments. Please use it and let us know what we can do for you. Hope you enjoy the rest of the site. Keep in touch and keep the emails coming.

Be Blessed,
Rob

Click here to sign up for our newsletter. We will keep you informed of menu specials, our live music schedule, special events, and any gossip about Starbucks. Just kiddin' about that last one...probably.
